Assessment
The Tests of Dyslexia- Comprehensive (TOD-C) is a comprehensive assessment tool that measures a student’s skills and abilities in three domains that are essential for the effective assessment of dyslexia and other reading disabilities: reading and spelling, linguistic processing, and vocabulary and reasoning. The TOD removes the need to use multiple assessment tools to diagnose dyslexia because it includes a comprehensive set of subtests within a single evaluation to measure phonological awareness, rapid automatized naming, auditory working memory, orthographic processing, sight word acquisition, phonics knowledge, decoding efficiency, reading fluency, reading comprehension efficiency, vocabulary and reasoning skills, and spelling.
The TOD takes 1-2 hours to administer. A comprehensive report with an analysis of your child’s scores and a targeted intervention plan to address the specific skill weaknesses will be provided. A follow-up session to discuss the findings will be scheduled at the parent/caregiver’s preference.
The TOD can be administered to anyone from 5 years old through adulthood.
NOTE: The results and recommendations in the report can be shared with your child’s school to help develop an effective intervention plan.
A private or clinical diagnosis of dyslexia can be helpful evidence, but in the public school setting, a school’s evaluation team will decide whether your child meets the state’s criteria for a Specific Learning Disability (SLD) and requires specially designed instruction. The results from the Tests of Dyslexia can help you to decide if you would like to request a psychoeducational evaluation through your school district, or if you would like to have comprehensive neuropsychological evaluation completed by a private practitioner.
